It's finally here!
The trails in Rockwood are in excellent shape with Sweetness and It's Gotta Go even sporting some dusty bits(what?!?). The usual spots on trails like Courduroy, Moose Trax are still a bit soft, but things are shaping up nicely for mountain biking in Saint John.
Sprockids have been unleashed in Rockwood! We've now had two sessions at Rockwood Park. We started out at the skills park and have since moved to full on trail riding. It is super rewarding to see the kids putting their skills to use, to see them challenging them selves, to see them developing camaraderie with their peers, and most of all enjoying themselves riding their bikes!
Sophia Burry, one of our Sprockids and an MCS shop rider, did her first race of the season recently, and she placed on the podium! Huge congrats and we can't wait to see what the rest of the season has in store for her!
We participated in a couple of neat events since the last news letter.
The KV police hosted a bike rodeo (pictured right) that we provided quick, free tune-ups for. It was great to see little ones learning the rules of the road, practicing skills, and learning hand signals!
The following weekend the KV police held a bike auction that was a great success. Money raised goes to the community advancement program! We were happy to donate labour and some parts to fix up a dozen or so bikes that had been dropped off at the shop. It was great to see them get reused and go to good homes! Click here and herefor some pics.
Check out the following coming up soon:
There were a few great events over the course of this week in celebration of Bike Week, and there was a great group out for a road ride last night to support!
Our Thursday night shop road rides continue. Everyone is welcome as these are no drop rides! We'll split into groups as needed, so everyone can participate and enjoy!
The Canada 55+ games is being hosted by Saint John this year. Check out the websitefor details on events, accommodations, volunteer opportunities, etc! We are happy to host the time trial and road race.
The East Coast Games is a go! A road closure had this event in question, but it has been confirmed as a go! Details will follow shortly ASAP, so check Facebook for the most up to date information!
Monday, June 25th, the Rocky Mountain Bicycle rep will be in town with a fleet of bikes in tow for folks to try out! Keep an eye on our social media as the date nears for time and locations details.
With racing season in full swing, there are a bunch of great Velo NB cycling events coming up soon:
Sunday, June 10th, the annual Gravel Grind will take place in Fredericton, NB in support of the Special Olympics.
The following Saturday, June 16th, Ellen's Tour de Sussex will take place. This Fondo is a memorial ride for Sussex's own - Ellen Watters with the proceeds going towards a bursary for a local female athlete.
Lastly, this year Minto's Coal Miner's Lung race will be the provincial championship! The town shows up like no where else to support this event. It is a must-go event!
Check out the velo nb events calendar for the full roster of events!
Some nice new rides have gone home recently. Check out the picks for some slick rides!
Lastly, check out this cool project/transformation we recently worked on. This is a beloved bike that the owner no longer loved the aesthetics/colour of, so we partnered up with the fine folks at Signs Plus for this killer vinyl wrap. Old is new again!
