Winter hangs on
Spring is... not here yet

Winter isn't ready to let go just yet, and this passed month saw some consistently cold weather. A few big storms have dropped a considerable amount of percipiation which combined with consistently cold temperatures has amounted to a great deal of ice covering just about everything, everywhere.

With that said, the recent weather has provided for some absolutely great conditions for winter riding! Fat biking has been especially popular and studded tires have been quite popular at the shop as a result of all the ice on the trails. Many groups have had some great fun enjoying the trails, and there have even been a number of river crossings! Conditions this time of year are constantly changing, so click the button below to head over to the Saint John Cycling Facebook page to get the most up to date information regarding trail conditions, and check out some pictures below to see some of the wintery adventures had this passed month!

February started off with the 3rd Annual Laughin' Louie Snowshoe Challenge at Elmhurst Outdoors, and we were super happy to support and bring along some fatbikes for folks to try out after the snowshoe race! Thanks to Elmhurst Outdoors for putting on the event, and congrats to Bill Wood and Glenn Trites for their excellent finishes! Click the button top right to head to the event Facebook page to see all the photos, and be sure to check out just a few of our favourites in the gallery below.

Of course ice fishing is a popular activity on the river this time of year, but the river has also has been busier than ever this winter with cyclists taking to it in droves. Several groups made forays across the river with some even riding up and around Minister's face.

Check out some pictures below!

The Trail Miners have been hard at work grooming throughout the winter, and the lack of warm weather means we have had some great winter trail riding conditions lately! Head over to the Saint John cycling Facebook page for the most up to date conditions, and check out some pictures below from a grooming expedition that took place recently!

Recent trail condition reports have both Rockwood Park and Shady Grove in tip top shape! An incoming weather system is set to dump 30-40cm of snow on the Fundy coast, so be sure to check back often for trail reports!

Winter trail riding is another really unique way to experience nature this time of year. The recent percipitation and consistently cold temps have created some really great riding conditions. Of course ice is everywhere this time of year, so studded tires are strongly encouraged and have even allowed folks to ride some of the lakes in Rockwood Park. Caution is always strongly encouraged when considering riding on frozen lakes and rivers as conditions can change rapidly and it can be very difficult to know exactly when and where it is safe to ride!

Saint John Cycling has been leading fat bike group rides on Sundays, and lots of folks have been getting out and enjoying the wintery weather. Check out some pictures below!
